Teik Granite Quarry (TGQ) is a pioneer in the quarry industry in the state of Penang. TGQ was founded in the early 1950's by the family's patriarch, Mr. Loh Poh Heng when he first operated a quarry at Air Itam at the foothill of Penang Hill.
During the 1960's, the quarry business was expanded to Tanjung Bungah, then Bayan Lepas in the Island and Penanti, Bukit Mertajam in the mainland. During the peak, there were four quarries operating in Penang. However, the Bayan Lepas quarry which was operated as a project quarry lasted for a few years only. The Air Itam quarry too ceased operation around 1992, a decision taken on a voluntary basis.
To date the Tanjong Bungah and Penanti quarries are still active and remain operating as commercial quarries both in the Island and mainland.

Air Itam Quarry's old concrete stone bunkers. Stones/rocks broken down to suitable sizes were then transported to the bunkers by wheel buckets on rail tracks for storage and subsequent sales.
